Overwatch 2: 13 Things We Learned From Blizzconline
5. Existing Maps, New Areas And Elements
Something that will hopefully also be added to the main game is how the art team has added new levels and areas to existing maps. One map that was featured was King's Row, in which a gated, closed off area of the map opens to an entirely new segment presenting a building that may be a brewery or warehouse, which a payload might even reroute through.
Another new element coming to maps is a change in atmosphere. A prototype sandstorm in Anubis opened new possibilities for weather changes mid-mission, from sandstorms in Egypt to snowstorms in Toronto.
The team also presented beautiful, colourful changes to existing time frames in maps like Dorado and Numbani, giving players a glimpse of how each area looks in daytime, during a sunset, or at night, depending on where in the world they might be.
The weather conditions and time frame will be noted before a mission so that people can pick heroes accordingly, with heroes such as Widow and Hanzo being valuable in low-visibility weather with their sonic and infra-sight abilities.
This will add a new, complicated, and altogether challenging layer to missions and the maps they take place in.
