Overwatch 2 Wishlist: 10 Things Fans Need To See
7. Community Transparency
With Jeff Kaplan, the game's director, making regular appearances and performing interviews to keep players up to date on the goings-on behind the scenes, you'd expect transparency to be one of the better aspects of the game.
Yet... it is not.
Whole systems have a total lack of understanding by the player base, no explanations come from the developers, attempts to mitigate the toxic aspects of the community go undisclosed or unaddressed.
A great example is the Endorsement system started back in mid-2018. On the surface it seems like a good idea – but there are so many aspects left unexplained to the players to make it totally pointless. Many players don't understand the hidden metrics they can't see, and getting into a toxic match punishes friendly, pleasant players more than it does the toxic ones.
The system also punishes players who want to play with their friends or remain in a group for several matches.
That all goes without saying the total lack of transparency in reporting players, which has even given rise to the accusation that players who try to mop up the community by reporting every toxic player they come across actually get punished more than the wrongdoers.
Blizzard needs to improve their transparency at some point to keep the toxicity in the game down, and OW2's release seems like as good a time as any.
