3. She’s A Classic Femme Fatale
There’s a huge range of characters to pick from already in Overwatch, and they usually make the flashes of personality we see in trailers count. As well as showing her elaborate gunplay, they deliberately zoom in on Ashe’s painted nails and her applying cherry red lipstick. This suggests she’ll be a femme fatale with velvet wit.
Of course, not everyone who wears lipstick is a femme fatale, but this was a very conscious choice. In the short two minutes Blizzard had to introduce Ashe to the world, they spent 10 seconds on just her lipstick. The red, which matches her demonic eyes, is a clear indicator of her persona. Despite ridiculous protests over how Tracer stands, Overwatch has been commended for the diversity and sheer number of female characters, and Ashe certainly seems like another victory in that regard.
The outfit sees her almost entirely covered, yet in the trailer she excudes that classic movie star appeal, all while seeming like she could break your nose six ways from Sunday. The gravelly, Katherine Hepburn/Scarlett Johansson voice definitely helps in that regard too.
