7. New Hero Drops
Not technically an event, so it goes lower on the list, but for many players, the announcement of a new playable hero was one of the biggest "events" that kept people coming back to Overwatch without fail.
The ARG involved with Sombra's release was one of the biggest, her first appearance dropping with a major cinematic in Infiltration and her own semi-animated origin story. The next big one was definitely Doomfist, who was so highly anticipated from his passing mention in the first cinematic that they went all out and made his origin story an epic, fully animated 2D short.
Interest for the game peaks whenever a new character is introduced, and since they had to stop doing that in order to focus on the stories of existing characters and finish Overwatch 2, it's been a bit difficult for some players to get back into the game.
It was an understandable decision, given how much people want to learn more about the existing hero roster, but many still hope that Overwatch 2 will have more heroes apart from Sojourn dropping along with the new game.
