PES 2018 Demo: 7 Things We Learned
1. FIFA Needs To Steal Those Passive Cursors
We've all been there. It's the 90th minute and you're defending a 1-0 lead. Suddenly, the CPU launches into one final push for an equaliser, you try to cut them off by switching to another defender, accidentally pick the wrong one and they're bearing down on goal before you have time to make amends.
Both FIFA and PES have always enjoyed holding player hands and 'auto-switching'. Theoretically, this is supposed to help, but it's actually more of a hindrance. PES 2018 has a simple, effective way to ease this rage-inducing pain. See that hollowed-out cursor icon above one of the Barca players? That tells you what will happen if you press the switch button.
The blue icon represents the player you're controlling. This is a genius system, one that EA likely wish they'd thought of first. It doesn't mean FIFA can't steal it in the future, but this idea will forever be known as one straight out of the Konami play book.
Not only is it handy from a visual point of view, it also allows the brain to think a half-step ahead during attacks or important defensive moments.
