2. Technology
The reason gaming couldn't get any better is because of our technological limitations. The Playstation is the pinnacle of technological innovation and to think that it could get any better is inconceivable. Unless we develop some 'alien technology' that'll allow us to render picturesque images on our televisions and process thousands of scripts within a second, we're stuck with what we have. I strongly believe that we won't be seeing anything better than what we have right now until 2011 (just a hunch). Perhaps by then, we'll get a built-in video-cassette player.
1. Target Audience
The biggest draw-back to gaming is appealing to a larger audience. Since people think it's 'nerdy' to play video games; how will video game companies expect to make a profit? I doubt hardcore gangsters like Ice Cube will suddenly give in to live life as an elf warrior. Now, I'm going to speculate here. I've seen many children playing video games, more-so than adults - does this mean that gaming will eventually become a popular pastime? Think about it: today's children will look back on their gaming adventures and attempt to re-live them by purchasing gaming-related products. By then, we'd probably have something called "Playstation: Genesis", but the notion might not be too far-fetched. Whatever happens in the future, only time will tell. Heck, if someone from the future reads this; please remind me to re-read this article: it'll help me to see if my predictions came true.
