2. Metal Gear Solid (PSOne)

Metal Gear Solid is an example of one of those games that almost everyone had. Though Snake had appeared in previous games, Metal Gear Solid, released in 1998 to critical acclaim and a huge amount of praise from critics around the world, made him a gaming legend. The storyline involves Snake being taken out of retirement to once again save the country from a giant nuclear capable mech called Metal Gear REX. Metal Gear REX is controlled by the terrorist organisation known as Foxhound, which is led by Liquid Snake, Solid Snake's ruthless brother. You take control of Solid Snake as he attempts to take down Foxhound and once again restore order and peace to the world. And Metal Gear Solid is still one of the best examples of an action-adventure game from its era, and - quite frankly - of all time. With its iconic sections of the game that required you to use stealth instead of the now infamous Call of Duty 'Gun Ho' tactic, a real amount of innovation and immersion was channelled into your gaming experience.
