PlayStation Showcase: 10 Games We Could See

8. Team Asobi's "3D Action Game"

Effectively the current incarnation of Sony’s Japan Studios, after the studio was merged with the Tokyo-based developer, Team Asobi is best known for their PSVR game Astro Bot Rescue Mission and, more recently, Astros Playroom as a PS5 launch title.

Astros Playroom may have only been a tech demo, but it was one that went above and beyond. Aside from being a perfect showcase of the DualSense capabilities, it was an excellent little 3D platformer in its own right and a nostalgia-fueled love letter to PlayStation history that set an ideal precedent for what this team was capable of should they be given the scope of a fully-fledged game.

And we could be set to see exactly what that would look like at this event, as last we heard a few years ago from a now deleted job listing (reported via TheGamer), Team Asobi was recruiting staff for a "3D Action Game". Now this could potentially be a title for PSVR 2 similar to Rescue Mission, yet after what we saw with Astros Playroom and the expanded scale of the team, the possibility of a full-length follow-up or even a brand new IP 3D platformer to stand alongside the likes of acclaimed modern platformers like Mario Odyssey could definitely be on the cards.

Such a title would also be exactly what Sony needs to balance out their more mature and narrative-driven line-up of games.
