Pokémon: 10 Dumbest Gameplay Features Of All Time
6. Abandoning The Seasons
As the final generation of main series games to be released for the Nintendo DS, Pokémon Black & White (and their sequels) brought a number of really exciting new features to the franchise. It was in these games that the moving battle scenes got their first trial, and the current iteration on the 3DS owes a lot to the work that was done here!
Not all of the pleasing features of Generation Five made it as a series mainstay, however, and one in particular is sorely missed. The addition of seasons that change with a real time calendar was a great visual touch, and had worthy implications for the gameplay as well. Deerling and Sawsbuck appeared in different forms for the different seasons, and appearance rates for certain Pokémon would be altered depending on the time of year or weather.
The decision to drop these immediately as Generation Six rolled around was quite baffling. Suddenly a series that was taking steps to develop a more realistic and immersive atmosphere had instead taken a step backwards.
I can only hope that the developers see sense and surprise us by bringing the seasons back in Sun & Moon.
