6. Optional Partner Pokemon
There's nothing quite like the bond between the trainer and their first Pokemon. That creature that you forsake two others for before setting off on your journey of adventure and companionship. With Pokemon Yellow, and again in Heart Gold and Soul Silver, the games offered a chance at an even stronger bond with your partner by having them accompany you outside the Poke Ball. In Pokemon Yellow trainers were only able to have the unique Pikachu follow them, but with the more recent Gold & Silver remakes trainers were able to have whatever Pokemon they wanted walk alongside them. It was a feature that, along with the 'PokeWalker' device, helped trainers raise their Pokemon's happiness level and made evolutions through friendship easier and quicker. Though there was no other competitive benefit to having the Pokemon outside of their Poke balls, it was nonetheless appealing and enjoyable and would surely be a welcome addition to any future generation as well. It could be included as an optional extra to any players who wanted to use it, so as not to upset the more serious gamers out there. Though granted the option would probably be employed more by the games' younger players (and me, apparently), it would be nice to see this feature return in future generations.
