Pokémon: 10 Weirdest Evolution Methods
6. Salandit To Salazzle
When Pokémon Sun and Moon were released in 2016, the franchise had been alive for 20 years, spanning across seven regions and introducing over 700 Pokémon. By this point it must be a challenge for the game designers to come up with new and interesting traits for these creatures.
With Salandit, they succeeded, giving the Poison/Fire type one of the most intriguing backstories ever, and it revolves around its evolution.
Though the majority of Salandit are male, it is only the females that ever evolve, resulting in a 100% female population of Salazzle. While this is similar to Combee's evolution into Vespiquen, the difference is that male Combees are physically incabapable of evolution.
On the other hand, male Salandit don't evolve because they surrender the majority of their food to the females, leaving them too malnourished to evolve. So while it is not physically impossible, it is simply in the male monster's nature not to.
