Pokémon: 10 Weirdest Evolution Methods
5. Mantyke To Mantine
While Mantine was introduced in generation three, its pre-evolved form Mantyke was introduced several years later in generation four. While this isn't uncommon among baby Pokémon like Mantyke, there are certainly some odd and uncommon traits this species possesses.
Not only are Mantyke and Mantine two of just seven dual Water/Flying type Pokémon throughout all seven regions, the evolutionary path is incredibly odd. Very few baby Pokèmon evolve in the traditional way of levelling up, with the majority evolving via high friendship levels. Mantyke falls under neither of these categories, possessing a completely unique method for itself, evolving only when levelled up with a Remoraid in the trainer's party.
While this does make sense as almost every image of Mantine shows a Remoraid under it's fin, it certainly raises a question as to the condition of the latter. Does this mean that the two Pokémon are now one in the same? This would make some sort of sense, however the Remoraid still remains a separate entity in the party post-evolution, making this one of the most confusing evolutionary methods of all.
