7. Magmar

So what, exactly, is Magmar?

Judging by his face he’s some sort of duck, but the fact that it has arms and a long tail kind of pushes back against that. The cartoon and Gen 1 Pokedex make him out to be some kind of lava monster, but he looks too solid to really fit that bill and the introduction of Slugma in Gold and Silver suggests that the designers didn’t actually intend this to be the case. Some say it’s supposed to be a mythical fire salamander but, well, anyone that believes that is welcome to ask Charmander’s opinion.

This Pokemon just plain doesn’t make sense…

Well, unless you look at its forehead, remember that its Japanese name is Boober and chalk this one up as a rib on all of us by the developers.
