Pokémon: Ranking The 10 Best Gym Leaders
2. Blaine
Though Sabrina was unlucky to miss out, Blaine takes second place representing the nostalgia of the original Kanto games. Typically, Blaine is encountered as the seventh gym leader, although the games were a bit more open originally and everyone between Surge and Blaine could be faced in any order, with a few exceptions.
In a usual play through though, he’s the penultimate. There’s not much to do on his island town, but he definitely makes you work for a chance to battle him. The key to his gym is deep inside an old mansion, giving you lots of lore to explore.
Is it cheating to include this as part of Blaine’s qualities as the best gym leader? Maybe, but in fairness the number one pick does this even more.
As for his team itself, Fire types have always had some of the most visceral designs, and his team is no exception. With n favourites Rapidash and Arcanine in his team, he’s an enduring fan favourite.
The gimmick of answering quiz questions is absolutely brilliant too, and was taken to new heights by Let’s Go. Incredibly memorable and bursting with personality; a truly great gym leader.
