Pokemon Sun And Moon: 10 Things Fans Demand

6. Better Overall Variety At The Gyms

Gym Battles make up the very core of the Pokemon challenge. Travel the world, train your team, put them to the test against the best that region has to offer. Win, and you'll open up the areas and abilities that will allow you to continue on your journey; lose and you need to get back to basics and try again.

Frankly, it's all gone a bit stale, and the main problem is how predictable it all is - players know they're going to face one particular type, and just need one solid way to combat it. It was a good dynamic in the earlier generations, when you neither really knew what you were facing nor had 20 years of previous precedent for how to overcome it all. Now though, as soon as you get wind of what type you're facing, all but the most recent players will overcome it quite easily.

Gym leaders not only need more variety in what they field, but more variety in how you beat them. For starters, set players some sort of challenge for them to earn the right to battle, beyond simply disposing of a few grunts. Then switch up the themes; instead of Gyms being all about an elemental type, why not make them about other attributes...

Think about it, a gym that's based on physical strength where all the Pokemon have massive Attack stats, or a speed gym where a wide variety of Pokemon are all going to get the first moves in on you? Mix up the challenges, and you'll give players greater incentives to catch, train, and learn.
