Pokémon Sun & Moon: 10 Things It Must Lose From X & Y
8. Stop Giving Away Starter Pokémon So Easily
Everyone remembers their first Kanto starter. Whether you're a longtime player who first picked up a Charmander on your GameBoy in the 90s, or just a Pokémon Go player who grabbed a Squirtle on your smartphone earlier this year, the three Kanto starters are simply iconic in their series.
So, you'd probably think it was a great idea that the Professor in Pokémon X & Y eventually gave players one of these three to choose from?
Well, you'd be wrong. Ever since the first generation, the starter Pokémon for the various regions have been coveted by players and sought out across the regions. Why not give them away, then?
To be fair, there's nothing wrong with making them obtainable. However, since these are always supposed to be such rare Pokémon, it doesn't make a lot of sense that people would so easily give them to any Tom, Dick or Harry. Reintroducing Safari Zone-style catches or even meaningful narrative events like those of Ash's journey in Pokémon Yellow would be a much better way of introducing older favourites into the game than with unfounded giveaways.
