Pokémon Sword & Shield: 10 New Styles That MUST Be In Gen 8

8. Electric/Fighting Type

This reads at first like a weird combination, but the more you look at it the stranger it gets to think that there’s never been a Pokémon to take advantage of this type.

After the three starter types, Electric is one of the more diverse options, while Fighting is strong but quite restrictive in its move pool. It seems, therefore, like it would be a match made in Heaven. Fighting is no stranger to unusual dual typings, after all, with Hawlucha doubling up with Flying and Medicham with Psychic; both typical weaknesses for Fighters.

Thunder Punch would be devastating with STAB, giving the elemental attacks that have been part of a Fighter’s moveset since Gen I more use than just coverage. It’s a surprise ‘sting like a bee’ hasn’t been capitalised on yet; yes, bees are Bugs and Heracross is Bug/Fighting, but seeing as it’s a beetle, that’s not linked to the famous Ali quote. A sting as in electric shock could bring that into the fold.

Design wise, Electric and Fighting both have distinctive styles that would mesh well. Fighting types are often muscular and imposing, while Electrics are spiky and angry. The design team could certainly make something memorable from that.
