Pokémon Sword & Shield: 10 New Styles That MUST Be In Gen 8
3. Fairy/Dark Type
How on Earth has this not happened yet?! Despite the massive bulk of the likes of Sylveon, Gardevoir and Xernes, Fairy Pokémon tend to be designed with a soft, cuddly aesthetic in mind. There’s nothing wrong with these types of Pokémon, but it’s a very strong typing - one of the few that can take on Dragon - that’s been pigeon holed.
The biggest evidence of this came when Fairy was introduced and many Normal types were retconned into Fairy; Jigglypuff, Clefairy and Togetic for example. However, there are many myths and legends where fairies are dark, evil, twisted creatures. Surely that paves the way for a mischievous Dark/Fairy dual type.
While Froslass is the perfect Ice/Ghost typing, something with her overall look would be a great starting point for a Dark Fairy ‘mon. Froslass’ cute yet creepy kimono design, plus the fact it’s said to display its frozen prey in its lair fits the ideas perfectly too.
From a gameplay POV, Dark Fairy would cancel out Dark’s weakness to Fighting while still being able to take on Dragon, Ghost and Psychic, making it a great opponent against glass cannons those latter two types in particular often have.
