Pokémon Sword & Shield: 10 Predictions Based On Galar’s Map
5. South West Island = Ireland
To the west of the hometown is a mountain, which doesn’t look to have any viable pass through, over or around. However, beyond that is a small island tucked in the south west corner of the map, so it must be accessible somehow, you would think.
Whether there is some way around it, or an underground tunnel from elsewhere takes you there, there doesn’t seem much point in putting an island that size in the game to then not use it.
Island towns have been a thing since the very first Pokémon game, and were a central theme in Sun & Moon, so they won’t be short of ideas.
Considering the Galar region is inspired by Britain, the island would most likely be a take on the Emerald Isle itself: Ireland.
Game Freak obviously aren’t going to tackle any of the tense political discourse, but creatures inspired by leprechauns, clovers and Celtic markings would all fit nicely.
With it being almost hidden away and having no clear link to the rest of the map, it may even be a post game area, full of strong creatures we can only capture once we’ve beaten the Elite Four the first time.
