9. Prediction: The Two Legendaries Will Be Attack-Based And Defence-Based
All this is really being based off is the names Sword and Shield, but Pokémon have had various Formes before designating different stat changes. The names are interesting enough, but they don’t exactly have the mythical feel that a lot of the previous ones have.
However, this may very well be a deliberate nod to something. Arthurian mythology definitely seems like it could play a part in the game, along with a more fantastical adventure theme compared to the relaxed, island vibes of Sun and Moon. With that in mind, the Legendaries could play a part in the theme too.
A 4chan leak suggested that the Legendaries will be a metal snake and a wooden horse. The horse immediately conjures ideas of Troy, which fits the old school sword and shield motif, but doesn’t quite match the heavy speculation over the region, although not everything will match up perfectly.
It also posits the idea of armoured Pokémon in battles, which again definitely fits the titles, and brings in Meltan from Let’s GO!, but causes other problems. With X and Y evolutions and Megas, armoured Pokémon would be yet another new battle mechanic being added when it’s not really needed.
