Pokémon Sword & Shield: 5 Confirmed Details (And 5 Predictions)
7. Prediction: Galar Is Based On The UK
Admittedly, this one is really stretching the definition of ‘prediction’. It’s been heavily, heavily implied that Galar is based on the UK, to the point where it would now be a surprise if that turns out not to be true.
However, there’s a lot of hints, clues and homages to dig into from the trailer, so it’s worth cataloguing them here. The map itself bears heavy resemblance to Britain, inverted in a similar fashion to George R. R. Martin putting Ireland on top of Scotland for Westeros. It appears the player starts south in what would be Scotland, before heading north to London.
As well as the Arthurian tone of the imagery and the titles, the environment looks a lot like a steampunk reimagining of London too. Added to that, there’s a mysterious creature on a mountainside (potentially one of the Legendaries) that looks to be inspired by the famous Cerne Abbas giant, just a lot less phallic.
Whether we’ll get dear old queen Liz with a team of Growlithes and Lillipup remains to be seen. We only know three of the Gen VIII Pokémon so far, but they might link to these fair isles too.
