Pokémon Sword & Shield: Ranking Every New Pokémon So Far
6. Alcremie
Alcremie doesn’t have a particularly unique design, with the sugary Fairy type clearly a riff on Slurpuff. In fact, it might even be the third stage evolution for the Slurpuff line, going Swirlix, Slurpuff, Alcremie.
If that’s true, it’ll definitely set off speculation as to which other cross generational evolutions could happen.
It has the right colour palette for Slurpuff, as well as the expression ‘the cream rises’ making it a perfect final stage. It lacks the canine style flopping tongue of the previous two, but evolutions have changed personalities previously; Dragonair to Dragonite being the most notable example of this.
Whether Alcremie is Slurpuff’s evolution or not, the strawberries and cream design for a British setting is a gloriously camp choice for this Pokémon. As for its Gigamax, it’s an utter work of art.
The argument as to whether Gigamaxes are necessary when we already have Megas will rumble on, but at least for now we can enjoy Alcremie’s Gigamaxed form. It was a perfect choice to show off this mechanic, transforming into a massive tiered cake when the power is activated.
It’s just a pity it won’t get to go toe to toe with Mega Alakazam and its many spoons.
