Pokémon Sword & Shield: Ranking Every New Pokémon So Far
3. Scorbunny
Of course, it’s the three starters who take up the top three spots. They’re some of the most exciting reveals in any Generation, and VIII is no exception.
They were the first three Game Freak showed us, and remain the most intriguing, especially as we’re yet to see what they evolve into.
It’s actually the hypothetical evolution which drags Scorbunny down into third. Until Game Freak deny (or confirm, but hopefully deny) that Scorbunny is set to be yet another Fire Fighting type, doubts will remain.
There’s nothing especially wrong with the match up; it’s a good offensive pair and forms a nice ‘firefighter’ pun. However, after Blaziken, Infernape and Emboar, we’re just a little sick of it. While Incineroar was Fire Dark, the wrestler design and its presence in Smash keeps it associated with Fighting too.
Scorbunny’s design looks like a footballer, which would certainly fit a British theme, and a starter combination of Fire Grass would be very interesting, if potentially upsetting the balance. Given the time footballers like Neymar spend on the ground, Fire Ground is a possibility too.
Of course, fans might be wrong about the football thing and it could turn out to be something weird like Fire Ghost.
