Pokémon Sword & Shield: Ranking Every New Pokémon So Far
12. Impidimp
You’d think Impidimp would be a bit higher up, considering it’s the first of the fabled Dark Fairy type match up fans have wanted since Generation VI. However, there’s just not that much so far to get excited about.
Like Yamper, Impidimp wasn’t revealed in a trailer, but instead as part of the gameplay demo shown at E3. Unlike Yamper though, Impidimp has remained absent from subsetrailers, and so hasn’t really had the opportunity to get much traction in the fanbase.
Taken purely on its design, it’s good, but it’s not great. It’s small enough that it might be a first stage evolution of something much bigger, but has enough flair that it might be a single stager. Hopefully the former, as fans were expecting a bit more from the Dark Fairy matchup.
Most fan designs for this combo were gothic pixies, demonic sprites or Rusalka type creatures. Kudos to Game Freak for doing something unexpected, but if you’re going to be different, you have to be better.
Impidimp’s mischievous design and name sets up a potentially great Pokémon down the line, so let’s just hope it delivers.
