Project 007 Wishlist: 10 Features We Most Want From New James Bond Video Game
1. A Compelling Spy Story
Stories in games have always been tricky beasts, too much story gets in the way of the game, but too little can make the achievements feel hollow and lack purpose or import. Players need to care about what they're doing if they're going to be doing it for multiple hours. That's before getting into the problem that Bond stories tend to be very hit and miss.
It's unlikely that the game will reach the campy levels of Roger Moore, but it would be a shame if it just copied the extremely serious tone of the most recent Bond movies. There are plenty of Bond movies like From Russia with Love and Goldeneye that managed the melodrama, the action, and the intrigue, as well as the gadgets and sexual tension.
Bond novels often had Bond infiltrating a crazed, gimmicky, villain's lair whilst dealing with internal problems and crisis of conscience. Players need to see red herrings and betrayals and how that affects Bond.
This game will need a professionally honed plot and narrative with dialogue to match. Don't just make him chase a bunch of nukes because someone hates a country.
