PS2 Mini: 20 Games It MUST Include
11. Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 4
Persona 4 finally answers the age old question of exactly how much J-pop and cutesy high school drama gaming audiences can sit through without losing it. The answer: about 75 hours (on the first playthrough, at least).
The Persona games are notoriously long and unbearably weird in a distinctly Japanese fashion. Yet, though the series seems unapologetically niche, it has evolved into a beloved RPG chronology, and the PS4’s Persona 5 was extremely well-received, so the series’ legacy won’t be diminishing any time soon.
While anyone could be forgiven for still playing through P5 given it’s outrageous runtime of 100+ hours, some fans may want to revisit the 2008 PS2 title, albeit with enhanced visuals. Series visibility seems to be at an all-time high, so it would be an excellent time to include Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 4 on the possibly-upcoming PlayStation 2 Classic.
The plot and lore surrounding these games is about as impenetrable as in-depth Tolkien fanfiction, but it’s so totally engrossing and captivating that it’s hard to put down regardless. It’s one of the most involved console RPGs ever released, and it’ll add an incredible amount of prospective playtime to the PlayStation 2 Classic’s library.
