PS2 Mini: 20 Games It MUST Include
9. Resident Evil 4
Though series fans still praise the original trilogy’s awkward tank controls and stilted fixed-camera perspective, Resident Evil 4 was what truly brought the series into the public consciousness. The original PlayStation games were good, albeit a little too niche. The refined fourth installment changed all that and made for a legendary sixth generation standout.
Everyone and their mother has heard of Resident Evil 4. It was the perfect marriage of fluid combat and excellent horror camp which proved that a survival horror title could still be scary without taking itself entirely too seriously. The series would later derail once RE 5 and RE 6 rolled around, but that is beside the point.
Remade somewhere around five-hundred thousand times, casual fans may be surprised to know that Resident Evil 4 was originally planned to be a GameCube exclusive. Capcom’s console allegiances have long been forgotten, of course, and, given how high-profile the franchise has become following the release of both Resident Evil 7 and Resident Evil 2’s remaster, it seems like a natural inclusion here.
It’s odd how well-remembered some of these horror titles are based on how barren the genre has been in the modern era.
