PS2 Mini: 20 Games It MUST Include
4. Bully
The current cultural climate isn’t likely to receive a game like Bully all that well, but publisher Rockstar games certainly isn’t going to care about any potential boycotts or Twitter-based moral grandstands.
Though potentially controversial today, 2006’s Bully was an absolute blast which let teenagers carry out all manner of virtual hyginx without actually leaving their bedrooms. As anyone who has played a Grand Theft Auto title for more than five minutes will know, Rockstar loves to play the role of cultural gadfly regardless of how lowbrow they have to go to get the attention of the masses.
At its core, Bully is still an immensely entertaining experience which distills and simplifies the GTA formula into something more easily-digestible for a younger audience. The violence here isn’t anywhere near as deplorable as what’s shown in some of Rockstar’s other franchises, though the open-ended, mission-based game is no less morally devious at heart.
With Red Dead Redemption 2 seemingly outselling the Bible in 2018, newer fans may be curious to see what the developer was up to years ago. It isn’t a perfect game, but there’s definitely a spot for Bully on this list.
