PS2 Mini: 20 Games It MUST Include
2. Burnout 3: Takedown
Let’s all gather ‘round and pour one out for the Burnout franchise. Once the crown jewel of EA’s non-sports-related gaming endeavors, the series has been dormant (save for a few mobile games) since 2008’s Burnout Paradise. Yes, the publisher did release a remaster of that game just last year, but a new dawn for the series this does not make.
Burnout 3 was the absolute pinnacle of the series; never before had the act of wrecking a car in a game primarily about racing been more fun than actually staying on the track. Wipeout animations were so detailed that, back in 2004, this felt like taking the place of a crash test dummy in an automobile manufacturer’s controlled collision test.
The most visceral racing experience possibly to date, Burnout 3 dialed things up to eleven and never looked back. While games like Gran Turismo were known for their authenticity and Need for Speed known for its attitude, Burnout 3 was an unabashed standout that knew very well what audiences were looking for.
It’s hard to know if another game in the series will see release, but, for now, Burnout 3 had better be on the PlayStation 2 Classic.
