8. Folders - XMB Display Options
The XMB kinda sucks doesn't it? Sony's big iteration on a (admittedly slick) string o' tiles-based interface from the PS3 was simply to double it up, giving people a dedicated system set of applications like Settings, Notifications and PS Store alongside all your other games and media-focussed stuff on the bottom. The problem? Once you've played or been into say five or more things, you're forever scrolling through your library to find the rest of what you may have purchased say, a month ago. Even Nintendo's 3DS has an option to rejig the way tiles are displayed on the dashboard (letting you zoom out so they're all on there) and the PS4 needs this too. Factor in the option to sort by custom folder so you can have something like a 'Currently Playing' or 'Play Later' list, and it'd go a long way to letting people become accustomed to their entire library at once. Better yet, release some different 'looks' for the basic PS4 dash; the 360 went through three major overhauls across its lifetime whilst the PS3 remained completely stale, and here after a year of staring at that XMB and its ethereal background music - it's time for a major shakeup.
