4. Microsoft Is Too Focused On Kinnect
Though last generation Sony and Microsoft followed Nintendo's lead by releasing motion-sensing apparatus for their consoles, it seemed like Microsoft became far more pre-occupied with it than Sony, although perhaps that owes partially to the fact that the Kinnect was a massive success, whereas the PlayStation Move arrived with little fanfare. If the rumours are to be believed, Microsoft are fully investing themselves in a new generation of Kinnect hardware, so far as including the new Kinnect within the housing of the console itself. What should Sony do? Go completely the other way. I suspect that the whole motion-sensing gimmick has pretty much had its day now; with the failure of the Wii U and the fact that there's still not a single Kinnect game that does anything particularly clever with the hardware, are people really going to be interested in it 6 months or a year down the line? It's a risky proposition by Microsoft; it could make the 720 seem woefully outdated down the line, whereas Sony, by releasing the next-generation Move as a separate accessory (presumably), have the opportunity to quietly disown it if things don't pick up. I pray that Sony don't push motion-sensing in the same way, and the fact that their PlayStation Meeting seemed to very much be about appealing to core gamers, one can hope that this is the case. Still, this one's very much up in the air as we haven't had any proper reveals yet.
