PS4: 9 Big Changes PlayStation Plus Desperately Needs

8. A Tiered Payment System

Maybe the way to drastically reduce the ire and general distaste around PS Plus is to remove the visibility of the 'offending' games altogether? Considering playing online used to be free in the first place to those with an internet connection, why not return that as a defining payment option? Let people who literally only want to play online, do so. Even if Sony wanted to charge for this - and to be fair, they're a business who's clawed back a fairly decent reputation since the dark days of PS3, so they can and should - it would remove the consistently disappointing reaction so many gamers have, being told there are 'new, free games!' only to find it's 'more indie stuff.' Some people, no matter what, are never going to love something like Firewatch. They're never going to spend time facing off against the mysterious dealer in Hand of Fate or thumping Windbags in Bastion. Let those who just want to play, play, and the rest of us who are up for spending an additional $10 or $20 to get a reft of freebies do the same. After all, the main issue is people thinking their money isn't being appropriately spent, when the return is a game they'd never play in a million years. So remove that, tier the payment options to let us be the tastemakers, then cater to peoples' needs en masse. Surely it's a win-win?
