6. The PS4K/NEO Can't Possibly Be Well Received
"How can they showcase a new console and tell people to buy it, whilst also reinforcing the fact that anyone who already bought the original shouldn't be annoyed?"
Such was the sentiment going into E3 for both Sony and Microsoft's rumoured new machines, and the answer? Get the developers to do your dirty work for you.
Microsoft had a sizeable chunk of their conference dedicated to various figureheads - including Bethesda's Todd Howard - proclaiming the Xbox One-beating 'Project Scorpio' can "Do so much more", allowing them to create bigger, better games with mor- look, you know how it goes.
I mean I'd settle for a working version of Fallout 4 right now, but by going down the route of "Our ambitions are just too great, we need more power!", it frames the console not as a middle finger to the consumer, but as an optional extra for 'true gamers'.
Contrast this with Sony's showing and... there wasn't one. The PS4K/NEO (whatever it gets called) has been confirmed for months, yet rather than get ahead of the game and tackle Microsoft head-on with their own reasoning, they backed down, giving the message of "Yup... we really don't know how to make you care right now".
