PS4 Vs. Xbox One: Which Console Won E3 2016?
4. Indie Games
In the green corner, Microsoft impressed at E3 2016 us with the gorgeous Disney-inspired platformer Cuphead, and We Happy Few - a Bioshock-like romp through a dystopian, technicolor society with a dark underbelly.
The latest game from Limbo developers Playdead, Inside, has resurfaced after lying dormant for a worryingly long time. The dark physics-based platformer looks as moody and haunting as you'd expect, and is set to be released in a mere two weeks time. Rounding up the best of the XBO indie line-up are the Hunger Games-like online shooter The Culling, top-down Souls-like Below, and a surprise appearance from popular PC survival game, DayZ.
In the blue corner we have a whole bunch of imaginative indie surprises too. Standing out among them is Chambara, a competitive FPS in a black-and-white world in which you control a black or white avatar and blend with your environment to ambush your enemy.
Blade Ballet is a top-down deathmatch game for couch co-op, Everything is a halluconogenic trip through space that looks both confusing and interesting, while Hob is a pretty top-down adventure from the makers of Torchlight.
Most exciting of all for me, however, is the arrival of realistic WWI online shooter Verdun on PS4 - which makes Battlefield 1 look about as 'WWI' as Saving Private Ryan.
Winner: Xbox One - the console continues its resurgence as an indie-friendly platform in style.
