PS5: 10 Features It MUST Have
5. Cross-Play With Xbox & Switch
It's hard to gauge just how much the average punter cares about cross-play, but it was certainly a talking point across 2018 as Microsoft and Nintendo allowed Minecraft owners to cross-play together, only to taunt Sony with a brilliant advert.
Depending on the optics and metrics of platform exclusive gaming and brand loyalty, there's arguably no "real reason" for an industry leader to remind you that the competition even exists, though there are plenty ways to incentivise competition between the companies themselves.
"Xbox vs PS4" competitions, promotions/competitions triggering unique rewards or offers depending on how many users are playing certain platforms - if Sony dove head-first into this stuff, there is a way to benefit all sides, including themselves.
If nothing else, being able to "sign up for team PlayStation!" is something forum posters have been doing for decades anyway. Many publishers have discussed how cross-play is incredibly simple, too (Epic accidentally enabled it on Fortnite), so we know it's over to the hardware manufacturers overall.
Imagine a Call of Duty/Fortnite/Overwatch tournament where PlayStation gamers fight to see if they're truly better than those on Xbox or Switch.
It's console war/old school "G4m3R"-type stuff, sure, but... wouldn't you get involved?
