PS5: 10 Features It MUST Have
3. Further DualShock Optimisation (Battery Life & Losing The Lightbar)
An issue as old as the PS4, the revamped, bulkier DualShock 4 is easily the best of the bunch so far but for whatever reason, it's only capable of holding charge for a handful of hours.
Unlike the Xbox One pad - which only requires a top-up every couple of days' worth of play - the DualShock's paltry 4-6 hour battery life led to Sony releasing a new version of the pad with different analogue stick rubber and a better battery. Sadly, though this did begin to solve the issue, you'll be hard-pressed to survive longer than a couple of sessions with it.
Atop that, the DS4's lightbar has actually been proven to not contribute massively to the pad's overall lifespan, but removing this would at least be an aesthetic improvement. I can't think of a single game that used it for a meaningful gameplay mechanic, and it's telling that Sony added the option to dim the lightbar into a subsequent firmware patch after months of complaints post-2013.
Overall, controller battery life has a LONG way to go, and it'd be great to see Sony lead the charge on the DualShock 5.
