PS5: 10 Major Worries Sony MUST Address
2. Backwards Compatibility
Here's a big one; backwards compatibility.
Currently it appears that a selection of PS4 titles will be playable on Sony's next console, but it doesn't go any further than that. They could do a lot better on this, especially considering the offering from their biggest competitor.
Sony has argued that full backwards compatibility is difficult due to both older system architecture, migrating online services over in the case of the PS3 and finally trouble managing licensing for the many games on their platforms throughout the years. This content library should be tapped into.
The fact that PlayStation hardware differs between console iterations hasn't helped either, considering how Microsoft has managed to keep their tech relatively similar to allow for older game support.
If there were a way to emulate or convert older games for an affordable price, it would bring more gamers to the PlayStation 5's side. Back on the older PSN store, we had PS1 and PS2 classics converted to digital form that could be played on both console and handheld, something that should make a reappearance.
Backwards compatibility was once a key feature of the first three PlayStation systems and it's a shame support for this has slowly trickled away.
