PS5: 10 Ways Sony Can DESTROY Xbox Series X
8. Make VR Mainstream
Despite being released in 2016, PSVR has failed to really make a dent in the VR market. The headset still costs around £250 at best these days, or roughly the price of a brand new
PS4, which is simply too much to justify for many consumers. If Sony are able to bring the cost of VR down over time, which you would
think they could given that the headset has been out for almost four years, it
could become a major selling point for the system, especially if they are able
to draw in the casual market by showing off its unique gimmicks.
However, PSVR also currently struggles to entice hardcore gamers, because of the perception that VR remains a site for tech demos and few proper gameplay experiences. This admittedly is partially on Sony, as the launch of PSVR was characterised by "experiences" such as Batman Arkham VR, which did little to suggest otherwise. However, the recent release of Half-Life: Alyx has shown that VR can facilitate the kind of experience hardcore gamers want.
It's a long shot, but if Sony are willing to invest in PSVR to make it a must-have commodity then it could have the potential to be a key selling point Sony have over Microsoft.
