PS5: 10 Ways To Blow PS4 Out The Water
1. Fixing How The PS4 Handles Updates & Patches
It’s embarrassing that this one still has to be here, really. Most entries here are ways the PS5 can be even better than its predecessor, but this is instead a glaring issue which needs to be fixed.
It seems like the PS5 will have faster installation times and more hard drive space anyway, but they absolutely cannot use this as an excuse to not fix this massive flaw.
Currently, whenever a PS4 game gets a patch, the game reinstalls itself entirely, creating one patched version alongside the patch free version. Once it’s done, the original patchless version is deleted and the game runs as normal.
Let’s not beat around the bush here; it’s a monstrously stupid way to do things.
First off, it doubles the file size of your game, so you might find yourself having to delete other games just so a different game can double in size, add a small update, then shrink back down.
Also, it means that what should be a minor update becomes a full installation, which takes far too long, especially in areas with poor internet. Sony have offered up excuses, but with neither Xbox nor Nintendo having this issue, their excuses are hollow.
