PS5: 10 Ways To Blow PS4 Out The Water
7. Overhauling Trophies
I don’t want to start a fanboy war here, but let’s be honest. Not only did Sony rip off Achievements from Xbox, they made them much worse.
On Xbox, each game is worth 1000GS. Each achievement to get nets you some GS, and beating the whole game nets you the full 1000. Though some games were a pain and had achievements at 27GS, most stuck with round numbers ending in 5s or 0s. Either way, it’s easy to check your gamerscore and compare it with friends.
On PlayStation, it’s not that easy. Here, there’s Platinum, Gold, Silver and Bronze trophies.
The Platinum is actually a great idea, with it being rewarded only when you get every Trophy available in a game. The rest though are a bit of a hodgepodge, allegedly tied to difficulty but often not in reality, with each Trophy getting a hidden number of points to raise your percentage against an exponential Trophy level. Far too complicated.
As well as greater accessibility, the option to use Trophy icons as your display picture or pin your favourites to your profile would be welcome too.
Some people understandably don’t care about Trophies, but for those that do, the PS4 feels very half baked.
