PS5: 10 Ways To Blow PS4 Out The Water

6. No Gimmicks

After the LED light on the back of the controller and the touch pad, it’s clear that the gimmicks this time around haven’t really worked. There was a temptation to title this entry ‘better gimmicks’, but let’s be honest, gimmicks are always a bit naff.

If it’s a feature we like, it’s a feature. If it’s something superfluous, then it’s a gimmick. Not exactly flawless logic, but it does stand to reason then that the PS5 doesn’t need gimmicks to outdo the PS4. In fact, a trimming of the fat might make for a leaner console. Without first party titles being forced to make use of these features, it’ll make for a more consistent gameplay experience too.

It remains to be seen how much PS VR will play a part in the future of gaming, but overall, PlayStation don’t have the best with gimmicks in general. Remember the EyeToy? PlayStation Move?

Their success with trying to implement new things has varied down the years. It’s not to say that PS5 shouldn’t introduce new features, but it certainly shouldn’t just do them for the sake of it. Unfortunately, with PS4, it felt like that’s what they were going far too often.
