Although at one point it looked as though the industry was marching ahead towards an all-digital future, Microsoft's monumental f**k up back in 2013 ensured that any move away from physical media would be shrouded in bad PR.

That stigma is just about wearing off, and the major platform holders have been making strides to more consumer-friendly online services, including Xbox's Netflix-style Game Pass. Where the similar PS Now failed for being a streaming service, Microsoft's monthly subscription nets you the ability to download full games, as well as brand new first-party releases.

It's rumoured that Sony is looking towards creating a similar service in the future, potentially to replace their struggling Now. A move completely in this direction probably isn't the best idea, but as an option, it could be a great way for the PS5 to keep up with wider cultural trends as well as receive a constant stream of great games for a reasonable price.
