PUBG: 9 Features It Needs To Compete With Fortnite

7. Unlockable Cosmetics (Through Play)

Bluehole

Given the whole hullabaloo surrounding EA's insistence on infecting its games with pay-to-win loot boxes, it's odd that Bluehole has so far managed to escape scrutiny over the topic. There is, of course, an important distinction between the two - PUBG's mystery caches contain purely cosmetic items - but this is still a full price title that locks certain items exclusively behind real money purchases with its key system.

PUBG's popularity has already ensured the world knows how successful it is - and as a business, Bluehole should be making financial gain - so is it really necessary to nickel and dime the player base for the sake of aesthetic diversity?

Bluehole should be less concerned with attempting to mimic Counter-Strike: Global Offensive's item economy and more inclined to offer cosmetic fluff through play alone. This doesn't need to be anything more drastic than removing the key requirement from crates, though specific milestone awards wouldn't go amiss, either.

With Fortnite's free-to-play model and Battle Pass system infinitely more appealing than its competitors archaic model, it's little wonder why lovers of the battle royale genre continue to migrate over to Epic's alternative.
