Ranking 2019's Biggest Video Games By Hype
7. Shenmue III
Release Date: August 27
A decidedly riskier project now, with one of the most anticipated sequels in video game history.
Shenmue II left fans on an agonising cliffhanger back in 2001 that, almost two decades later, will finally be (hopefully) resolved, or in the very least addressed.
Director Yu Suzuki is back to helm what looks like a passionate, for-the-fans follow-up, and while it's sensible to be anxious about its significantly lower budget and the less-than-amazing pre-release footage, it's still tough not to be at least a teensy bit excited.
And by teensy, we mean a lot, because it's Shenmue freaking III.
The mere fact that this game will even exist and be on shelves in just eight "short" months (relatively speaking) is a miracle in of itself, and while some mechanical jank and awkwardness is pretty much inevitable, fans are sure to simply be grateful that it's even a thing in the first place.
For the sake of your sanity, though, don't go into this expecting a masterpiece.
