What a prize Microsoft Studios has just gifted themselves with!

Made up of several industry veterans, Obsidian got off to a bumpy start with strong games that were let down by rushed productions (e.g. KOTOR 2, Alpha Protocol). However, then they made Fallout: New Vegas, which is vastly considered the best modern entry in that franchise.

Since then it's been strength to strength from South Park: Stick of Truth to the Pillars of Eternity series. At present they are considered the company in the RPG world.

This deal indicates larger things though; Obsidian had developed an Xbox One launch game named Stormlands for several years. Growing frustrated from a heated production they eventually walked - leaving bad blood in the water. If they have now let themselves get outright bought by the publisher, the pastures have definitely turned green.

With a big studio footing the bill and giving them total creative freedom - this could be the beginning of a beautiful friendship.
