Ranking Every Bioware Game From Worst To Best

7. Mass Effect 3

Five years on, the ending of Mass Effect 3 is still as divisive as ever. Boiling an entire trilogy's worth of storytelling down to three final choices that potentially contradict your actions from across the previous games, the climax of the title was certainly divisive, but it shouldn't overshadow the tens of hours that preceded it.

Because with so much focus on the end, it's easy to forget just how incredible the game was up until those final few minutes. From huge narrative beats that paid off three games' worth of story such as the decision to reverse the Genophage or small but perfect character moments like shooting cans with Garrus in the rafters of the Citadel, the bulk of Mass Effect 3 rewarded the dedication of longtime fans of the series.

Likewise, the sense of scale that the game was able to conjure was genuinely breathtaking at times. The Reapers could have easily become unwieldy and generic in their goals, but their menace and intent is felt throughout the sequel, and there's a palpable sense of oppressive despair that haunts every single mission.

The ending isn't for everyone, and it's a shame that a lot of the side-missions were pared back in scale, but 90% of this finale was everything fans wanted from the finale of ME and more.
