Ranking Every Call Of Duty Campaign From Worst To Best
2. Modern Warfare
As the latest remaster proves, the original Modern Warfare is still one of the best first-person shooters ever. Even ten years on, Infinity Ward's exceptional campaign holds up, and although this was the title that set into motion some of the series' worst single-player cliche's and conventions, it's still unrivalled in terms of pure blockbuster spectacle and narrative pacing.
Even moments that you've played to death retain the impact they once had. The nuclear explosion that abruptly ends one side of the campaign's story still shocks, while the sniping missions 'All Ghillied Up' and 'One Shot, One Kill' continue to be masterclasses in first-person shooter level design.
Because the game's multiplayer cemented it as a classic, it's easy to overlook how similarly memorable the main campaign actually was. But CoD 4 was more than just one element, and thanks in no small part to some of the most distinctive characters of the last generation, it's no wonder that the game's single-player helped Modern Warfare to become the phenomenon it was and still is.
