Ranking Every Devil May Cry From Worst To Best
1. Devil May Cry 5
Talk about a return to form.
After DMC 4's lacklustre use of Dante and the 2013 reboot killing off the original version altogether, Capcom reintroduces the world to the Dante we all grew up with in the best way possible.
The great scriptwriting was back; the original look was back. Even one of the most beloved weapons from DMC 3 comes back, but you'll have to play to know which one.
DMC 5 looks absolutely stunning to boot, but the reason it soars above its forebears is entirely down to gameplay. Both Nero and newcomer V are both incredibly fun to play as - the former especially, as Nero's arm is now replaced with a robotic assortment of specials - but Dante's moveset? It feels like every other game in one.
Almost like Capcom wanted to make up for the 11 year wait, Dante's four stance system is back, but it goes atop a weapon system that itself, has a separate skill tree per item. Levelling up then gives you a ludicrous amount of options for any fight, comprising everything from breakdancing with demonic foot armour, to literally wielding a bike in two halves like two giant hammers.
Combine everything - the overall presentation, fun-loving script and genuinely-the-best-combat-in-action-game-history - and you get something that finally lets you do as many things in-game as we always adored watching in the cutscenes.
DMC 5 plays with as much style, swagger and self-assurance as Dante on his finest day, and that makes it the best one yet.
