Ranking EVERY Fallout Game From Worst To Best

3. Fallout 3

Fallout games
Bethesda

Depending on who you ask, Fallout 3 was either the most innovative game in the franchise for it's brave reinvention of the series' approach to combat and world storytelling, or it's the game that chased action over narrative and felt like a lesser RPG for it's efforts.

Im firmly in the former camp as even though I loved the original two Interplay developed games, it's impossible to deny how immersive and chaotic Bethesda's Fallout 3 is.

Witnessing the wasteland in first person is a true (if slightly disgusting looking) joy, and while the VATS system might act as a "get out of jail free" card more often than not, the move to a more mainstream FPS combat was the smartest choice for a series looking to capture a wider audience.

And it succeeded greatly in hitting it's goals as Fallout 3 went on to be a sales juggernaut hitting over 10 million copies sold worldide by 2015, and critical praise booming in it's wake.

Simplifying the controls while still pushing a brilliant dialogue tree system proved to be the perfect balance between the old and the new. It's just a shame that the actual aiming of the weapons was a little haphazard.
