Ranking Every Final Fantasy Composer
16. Noriyasu Agematsu
Works: Brave Exvius
There have been so many Final Fantasy mobile games in the last decade and a half that keeping track of them all is a near-impossible task.
Most such games simply reuse tracks from other Final Fantasy games, some not even bothering with re-arrangements. Several have received official soundtrack releases – Mobius, Record Keeper, Dimensions and Dimensions II were scored by composers well-known for other games in the series - but Brave Exvius was entrusted to a fresh pair of hands in the form of Noriyasu Agematsu.
More experienced in the world of anime than the world of games, Agematsu has put together two soundtrack releases over the course of Brave Exvius’ five-year lifespan. A third may yet be forthcoming given that Record Keeper and Mobius got three volumes apiece, but this may be shelved in favour of a collection from his latest project, the game’s recently-released sequel.
The quality of his
work is in line with what would be expected from a cash cow mobile game,
serviceable yet formulaic. Without the game having any emotional weight, the
impact of his tracks are limited, but ‘The Oath’ and ‘Parallel Star’ are
amongst the standouts.
